travel update.
Well, I am finally here in Phoenix, but my luggage is not. Getting through BOS and Chicago O’Hare really roughed me up. I spent all day yesterday experiencing delays, but not the “oh good I can get some work done” kind — more like the “why haven’t they posted the notice that I am at the correct gate?” kind. So much for catching up with email.
Here’s what I learned:
- Traveling through major airports on a Saturday = bad news and droves of people.
- Traveling through Chicago on a Saturday in winter = good luck with that one!
- Wolfgang Puck sit-down restaurants in airports still have plastic silverware… and are overpriced but delicious.
- ORD has weird sliding clear plastic toilet seat covers you’re supposed to change before you sit down.
- While you can’t get any computer-related work done when you’re sitting on the runway, cell phone brickball is awesome.
- My blackberry pearl (T-Mobile) does not auto-update for the time zones. Am I missing something?
- Pack (at the minimum) your toothbrush and some undies in your carry-on. Seriously.

Blackberries do not auto-update time zones. I realized that when mine wouldn’t update each time I traveled b/t Boston and Dallas. You have to go in and change it manually as far as I know.
Sorry you have had to deal with so many delays!

re: toothbrush + undies
I also learned about that trick when travelling to Vegas and having my luggage delayed for a day. It is a good lesson to learn, albeit an uncomfortable one.

I’m a big fan of One Bag traveling. It frees you up from worry, gets you through airports faster, and has that element of minimalism that I always fall for. I admit that lots of equipment would make it difficult, at the very least requiring a bag with a good suspension system. In any case, I hope your trip turns out well.
