have the Disney princesses lost their innocence?

Am I the only one who finds it inappropriate that Cinderella is doing the “Paris Hilton” over the shoulder glance? Should I be taking notes for my boudoir work from Disney princesses now? I am disturbed, but only mildly surprised at the way these princesses have been tarted up with strangely alluring posing (butterflies or not) for this young girl’s birthday party decor. [shudder]

I believe that Paris Hilton actually snagged that pose from Cinderella

Hmmm … I wouldn’t have noticed that. Who’s the one with Jasmine and why do I not know her???

I agree, to some extent, that the princesses have been tarted up over the years, but I honestly think you’re reaching with the pose comparison. That over the shoulder look isn’t unique to Paris Hilton nor is it always something sexual.

Ha…. Kristen, that’s Ariel, in her human form I am assuming…. the little mermaid. She actually has the most revealing clothing if you ask me — look at the tightness of the top!! And the shoulders
Nate – I’d be willing to admit it’s stretching a bit for humor with the posing critique. All of the elements together are what make me shudder.

ps: check out Ariel’s skintight off the shoulder dress. (Seriously, Disney?)

The princesses are all tiny waisted and big busted- just like Barbie. The issue is really little girls and body image vice sex. I don’t see the overt sexuality, but Disney shirking their responsibility in influencing young girls to have low self esteem.

Ohhh, Rachel, this is only the beginning of the outrage if you ever have daughters. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve edited lines from Emma’s Disney storybooks — “She’d always dreamed of meeting a handsome prince!” “She didn’t know his name, but it was love at first sight!” Sometimes I also add a line at the end — “And they lived happily ever after… and Cinderella went to medical school.”
If you want to talk about inappropriate, check out Barbie or Bratz. (Shudder.)

This would be a good time to mention my love for “Ever After” with Drew Barrymore as Cinderella. And so I just did.
